If Citrix Consulting we are often asked for a step-by-step process to seal a vDisk while perform a small update, if the customer uses Citrix PVS (or MCS). require Important Update vDisk or vDisk creation more steps.
There are many websites and blogs that such information, and only a few Citrix article cover a part of it (if they do with KMS for example ), but there were no Citrix public source a step by step on our experience is based provides.
Of course, these steps are not written in stone (especially since it ... online), and all customer environments are different, so please contact sharing in the comment section below your own experience.
Please note this process for XenApp / XenDesktop 7.5 is provided and later. XenApp 6.5 requires additional steps (XenApp Server Config tool, clear the LHC ...)
- CHKDSK C :. And reboot
- cleanup event logs, if they are not passed to the cache disk:
- Via PowerShell -> Get-EventLog list | % {$ _. clear ()}
- wevtutil cl System
- when vSphere is used, delete "spirit" NICs:
- open elevated prompt
- type: "SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES = 1" and confirm
- type "start devmgmt.msc" and press
- click View and "Show hidden devices"
- delete 'spirit' NICs
- slmgr.vbs / dlv a real KMS server and license configuration
- when MS Distributed Transaction service installed to ensure msdtc.exe lead - reset is
- if MS Message Queuing installed, clear its cache:
- NET STOP MQAC
- NET STOP MSMQ
- Run disk cleanup on drive C: as elevated administrator
- delete local profiles that are not necessary
- stop Citrix profile Manager service
- If Citrix profile Manager is configured via GPO , check that its INI in C: Program files Citrix UserProfileManager was renamed
- Clear Citrix profile Manager logs c: UserProfileManager windows system32 LogFiles if they are not in the cache rerouted to the HDD
- when using App V or similar technology, consider whether updated app V content of precache within the vDisk image
- , which to your antiVirus "depersonalization" Perform Update (see their KB, because the process is judged differently to the provider)
- Perform necessary "depersonalization" for your monitoring Agent (SCOM, Tivoli ..)
- Perform necessary "depersonalization" of your other agents (AppSense, RES, SCCM. .)
- a full antivirus scan on the virtual machine
- Stop client DHCP Service
- Run enhanced by: "regedit / s DHCP_clear.reg" (see Dave post)
- Run a Defrag on the virtual machine
- PvD only : with machine shutdown option enables run-inventory ()
- shutdown of the machine, if PvD not used
- defragmenting the VHD Run by a WS2012R2 Server
