Today, Citrix released a new version of VDI-in-a box. While continuing our simplicity and accessibility signature, VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 extends the virtual desktop support to Windows 8.1, adds support for Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V and VMware vSphere / ESX 5.5, and comes with several power tools that IT administrators can use to enable advanced uses. Some of the new features:

Stay abreast of the latest Windows and hypervisor technologies

Like Citrix XenDesktop 7.1, the new VDI-in-a-Box Version supports full Windows 8.1 virtual desktops. In fact, ensure VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 and XenDesktop 7.1 from the same battery VDA / HDX, the Citrix customers have a consistent user experience, highly optimized, no matter what Citrix desktop virtualization product that they choose to use. Version 5.4 also adds support for using Windows Server 2012 R2 as a virtual desktop in Windows 8.1 skin - a very useful feature for service providers to take advantage of Microsoft SPLA licensing to provide Windows As- A-Service

VDI. in-a-Box 5.4 supports the latest hypervisors, including Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2, XenServer 6.2 and VMware vSphere / ESX 5.5.

When it comes timely, updated support for the latest Windows technologies and the hypervisor, VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 leaves no stone unturned, giving our customers total freedom to explore what's best out there, and to keep their production environments on the latest and greatest.

Power tools for advanced use

VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 now works with existing customer investments in SAN and other storage solutions adding shared storage support on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V R2. Shared storage is supported on both hypervisor Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere.

VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 provides simple and affordable VDI for education with direct access from devices such as HTML5 Chromebooks. Version 5.4 includes built-in support for HTML5 device, Citrix Receiver allows devices without native to work "out of the box" with virtual desktops VDI-in-a-Box via a built-in HTML5 Receiver. Customers no longer need to deploy a separate StoreFront server to use Chromebooks with VDI-in-a-Box.

VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 helps companies maintain compliance with the support of several IT areas. Each golden image can be assigned to one of the configured IT areas. Desktops can be separated into different areas if your company requires such segregation for safety reasons, regulatory or compliance.

In a shared laboratory, VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 supports follow me desktop computers for teachers while providing shared user accounts to students. Follow Me workstations is a model property with a configuration template on / off. It enables a shared user account for students and more personal, follow me workstations for teachers.

VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 provides peace of mind for customers to be able to preserve and develop their investment in Citrix technology. Version 5.4 now includes a migration wizard to Citrix XenDesktop, directly accessible from the VDI-in-a-Box Administration console. The images of exports of basic migration wizard for use in the creation of machinery catalogs, and generate PowerShell scripts to duplicate VDI-in-a-Box model configuration and user assignments in a XenDesktop environment.

improved IT experience

VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 provides support for streamlining the flow of IT work to the updated driver image before deploy for production users. Images can be saved under a new name using "Save as", which allows administrators to easily create image backups, or experiment with Windows updates and application patches . Pooled desktop models may be reassigned to new base images to drive the image updates with some users before deploying to all users.

in the previous version, VDI-in-a -Box 5.3, we added SSL certificate installation and management interface that has been well appreciated by our customers. in version 5.4, the SSL certificate UI has greatly improved. Now you can install and manage new and existing SSL certificates via the user interface. the command line keytool and Java are no longer needed. You can also specify multiple host names when creating new CA signed certificates

with VDI-in-a- Box 5.4, helpdesk can provide users with remote support in real time. The Microsoft Remote Assistance feature is now included in the VDI-in-a-Box admin console. Administrators and engineers of the helpdesk can remotely reflect user sessions, support mouse and keyboard control with permission from the end user, and be able to troubleshoot and solve problems in computers users.

Current customers VDI-in-a-Box can download version 5.4 now the Citrix product download page (requires login MyCitrix). Anyone can try the new version by downloading the free trial version.
