3 Key Takeaways for the digital workplace Gartner Symposium 2015 -

CIOs focus on digital business. This was the subject of Gartner Symposium / ITxpo in Orlando earlier this month -. an event that I attended with 20,000 of my closest friends Symposium 2015 Vision of companies three to five years from now presents CIOs get ready to the challenge to rise before them. Since my interest is in how digital contract allows the digital workplace, here are my three key takeaways from the event:

  1. technology ownership and control changes Gartner. by 2017 50% of spending on IT will be from the IT Control - down from 70% in 05. Why? Because technology ownership and influence change. People like you and I now have the opportunity to go to the store and buy the device that we want ... and to make matters worse, according to Gartner, 50-80% of us pick out our own apps from the App Store and it happens for business. The same within business units. Head of business units with a specific requirement can now find go a SaaS solution to meet their needs without ever talking to IT. In both these scenarios, organizations now have unmanaged devices, applications and services in their surroundings and have zero control over them. But there is a bright side to this: more people outside your organization now can support business technology in your company (eg SaaS and cloud vendors support your services and infrastructure and staff their devices and applications support). This means that you can open up new resources to take on new projects.
  1. security must focus on activation, not prevention. A few years ago, IT security teams spent 60% of their time not happen (and money) things and to prevent 40% of their time detection and response to incidents. In the future, this time will balance this reverse. While can be applied to many areas of the economy, the aspect that resonates with me was to end-user computing. How many times we have seen IT draconian in measures taken, such as the prevention of data access from non-corporate PCs, and people to work only to them? I will not lie ... I mean this before. The realities of consumerization and the fact now that people expect the kind of technology do they also to be in their personal lives at work, that the use, access to prevent, etc. apps, data and services is no longer possible. IT must focus on people-centric security and instead allowing people to work, as they work best and know that their solutions able to recognize and respond to all the questions that come up -. And automatically handle it
  1. mobility forces to reconsider the people, as the work is done. My favorite Keynote was from Virginia Rometty, Chairman, President and CEO of IBM. In their Mastermind Keynote, she said: "Mobility is not about devices it comes to reimagining how the job is done.." You nailed it! With all the emphasis that we have seen in recent years on mobility, so much of it on the latest iPhone or other device deserves the "executive bling" stature.Instead has focused, it underlines that mobility must be thought of as much more - to work as enables new and better ways. Further meetings on this concept concentrates with further details: must adapt work to people - where we are, how we work best; it has to get involved; and it requires new technologies to ensure that we have to be successful the tools and data at our fingertips. In short, the digital workplace "new, more effective ways of working permits to work reimagined; raises employee commitment and agility;. and uses consumer-oriented designs and technologies" is the answer, as

production of digital workplace a reality

What do you do next? How do you embrace the benefits of these three realities of the digital workplace? The answer lies in these two the audience asked questions:

  1. How would it run when the most important performance metric employee engagement was
  2. How do you run it when there is a non-profit organization, which had a lot of competition?

think about it. Since the end-user experience is still is IT responsibility, you need to focus on providing technology and services that people stay connected and engaged to ensure their work; that they can work wherever they are inspired; that they have access to all applications and data wherever they are, so that they work on their terms; and that the experiences that they are delivered, is one that rivals what they get with their consumer technologies.

There is no easy task, but it's time to face the challenge. Citrix has organizations of all sizes helped and in all vertical industries, creating their digital work - let us help
