VDI-in-a-Box and StoreFront: Is it right for you -

Imagine having a single connection point for all your needs Citrix ?. Citrix StoreFront makes this possible for XenDesktop, XenApp, CloudGateway Enterprise and now VDI-in-a-Box 5.2! Gone are the days when a separate website has been necessary for your various Citrix solutions. This impressive technology was designed to make it even easier for your users to access all their virtual desktops and applications.

I am very happy about this integration because the user experience is greatly improved. Being able to have a single point for users to connect and access their resources saves a lot of calls of time, headaches, and helpdesk. One thing to keep in mind is that many SMB customers who are deploying VDI-in-a-Box will most likely not need to use StoreFront. I want to be clear that VDI-in-a-Box does not require that all devices StoreFront (vdiManagers) VDI-in-a-Box has its own web interface. That has not changed but administrators now have the ability to allow StoreFront communicate with VDI-in-a-Box systems. I will discuss the following scenarios in which StoreFront is either recommended or required with VDI-in-a-Box :.

  • existing XenDesktop, XenApp or CloudGateway Enterprise deployments
  • authentication single sign-on and / or 2-factor is required on Access Gateway

customers with existing Citrix infrastructure :.

Whether you have a Citrix or looking to deploy new infrastructure, migration to Citrix StoreFront for Citrix Web Interface is the first step towards a unified point of access for your users. There are several ways to deploy StoreFront but it is possible to create a unique StoreFront site that contains multiple controllers delivery. It is as simple as adding the addresses of all your Citrix servers you want to make available in StoreFront. You can now add your VIAB 5.2 servers as controllers Deliver the store

Citrix Receiver StoreFront connected to that VDI-in-a-Box, XenApp Enterprise and CloudGateway :.
StoreFront via Citrix Receiver

Examples of different ways to deploy StoreFront for use with multiple Citrix products:

  • VDI-in-a -Box and XenApp, Side -in-Side: one thing that many people do not realize is the ability to access applications through Citrix XenApp VDI-in-a-Box desktops. Citrix receiver simply needs to be installed on the golden image Viab. This can work well for some customers, but in some cases, users may need to access separate applications without entering their virtual desktop. Having XenApp and Viab servers in the same store eliminates the need for users to remember and connect to different web sites or accounts
  • VDI-in-a-Box and CloudGateway Enterprise :. The Enterprise CloudGatweay AppController is a mobility management solution that allows you to publish and control a variety of SaaS, mobile applications, and data Sharefile. Sometimes users need or want to work in a virtual office and rightly so. However, on the road or on a mobile device, it can sometimes be more efficient to access a site or application without having to connect to the virtual desktop. This is where the CG AppController just reading a sales representative on the road can easily access the different applications and CRM tools to check a customer account.
  • VDI-in-a-Box and XenDesktop in one place: Yes I said. This might not be the majority of customers, but there are deployments which have both XenDesktop and VDI-in-a-Box (and XenApp). XenDesktop with FlexCast offers could be the main solution to the headquarters of the company, while VDI-in-a-Box is deployed to one of the branches a few hundred miles. In most cases, only one user will not have VIAB desk and XD office, then why would you StoreFront? There are some reasons such as the provision of this single point of access to all users, and scalability of deployment with ability to add XA / CG mixing for both Viab and XD users with just a few keystrokes and clicks mice.

VDI-in-a-Box with Access Gateway

the ability to access VDI-in-a-Box virtual desktops outside the office business is a requirement for many customers. The way to do this is to use the access gateway. There are many names for this solution, some with NetScaler, Access Gateway CAG, AGED, and a little more. Whatever you want to call or the version you use, the Access Gateway of these products are used to create a secure CIA proxy that allows VDI-in-a-Box desktops on a secure network access from all over the world. The ICA communication on the WAN side of the gateway is encrypted using SSL / TLS.

Although VDI-in-a-Box does not require StoreFront to use the access gateway for remote access, there are several reasons when it is necessary. If any of the following are required for your VDI-in-a-box deployment for remote access, you need StoreFront:

  • Single Sign-On : authentication to the access Gateway is the safest and recommended method for accessing desktops VDI-in-a-Box via WAN connections. With StoreFront can now provide a seamless user experience with VDI-in-a-Box users access Gateway- and not need to authenticate to the bridge and back to the VDI-in-a-Box Web interface.
  • two-factor authentication : VDI-in-a-Box customers can now make use of any means of authentication supported by Access Gateway and StoreFront! This includes various RADIUS authentication solutions-Symantec, RSA, and SMS Passcode. StroreFront also provides seamless single sign-on for 2-factor authentication to your desktops VDI-in-a-Box
  • CGP on remote connections :. Citrix Gateway Protocol, or session reliability, keep user sessions active and on the screen in case of network disruption. VDI-in-a-Box already supports this technology for LAN connections, but this functionality is extended to remote users through the Access Gateway when StoreFront is used. This feature is very convenient for those connections that frequently or even fall for the simple convenience of the time you could close the lid of your laptop for a few moments when walking from your office to a conference room
  • Add accounts with the latest Citrix receiver : Although this is true for both local connections, not just remote StoreFront adds the ability for users to connect to their StoreFront server via addresses E-mail. You may have noticed the window appears after installing the latest Citrix Receivers, inviting to an email address or a server. This is pretty cool and convenient that users will not need to remember a server address to connect to their published resources. In addition to convenience, the latest Citrix receivers are designed to better integrate with StoreFront, so you will always have the latest and greatest.
