The new iPad Pro is a fantastic step up for mobile workers who want to leave their laptop at home.
First, the positives (and there are a lot of them).
the large, 12.9-inch display looks even bigger than it really is. Weighing 1.6 pounds, it is fairly easy, although it with one hand (as you might do with a normal iPad, might be awkward. 10 hours of battery life and a built-in cellular data option make the iPad Pro ideal for field staff. also nice? simple flash cable for charging, which means that there are not wearing behemoth big charging brick.
mobile iOS apps work fine, and the new Side-by-Side function makes multitasking easy the apps that support it (more expected shortly). the Apple pencil will make a blessing for quick notes and his Photoshop experts.
So what is missing? Windows applications for work and a mouse.
, for Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop users with a Citrix X1 mouse, the iPad Pro can really be a true laptop replacement. you can not be ready your old laptop into retirement, but you will definitely leave home more often.
Citrix Receiver has been updated (v6.1.2) on a 10 x optimize the iPad Pro Display and default 10 resolution. As illustrated, the fonts are sharp and the Windows 10 desktop offers plenty of space for multitasking open windows.
The X1 mouse works just like with the right mouse button, drag and drop expected and scroll wheel support. This makes the iPad Pro productive for the creation of content and not only consumption, as recommended for other tablets. The Apple-pencil can duplicate some mouse functionality, but for a long time, the mouse will probably be the preferred pointing device.
When I need a laptop?
The biggest question is how long you expect to be offline. Doing email WorxMail and notes is simply offline, but when complete office is required or another job apps then a laptop a safer choice when no Wi-Fi or cell data are available. Fortunately this is becoming less of a barrier.
to a file on a USB drive can not be saved, and peripheral support such as local printers, also possible considerations. These use cases are declining and the cases in which they come are few. If you could use your laptop plugged in to an external monitor this also be a consideration, as well.
Writing this blog on the iPad Pro with Citrix and X1 mouse was trivial and made me forget what I also.
What are your thoughts? Think the iPad Pro you do leave your laptop at home?
