This is the first installment of a 6 part series on the benefits of Citrix XenClient VM-local option and XenDesktop its FlexCast delivery technology. You've all seen the headlines about high-profile lost or stolen laptops. 10.x Citrix Access Gateway now supports different UIThemes load that can be applied to the connections of the browser.
We have the theme of default caxton style legacy Black / blue background. Besides the theme we GreenBubble (also known as the Theme receiver name) and Custome IU default theme.

The theme of the GreenBubble falls in line with the receiver's product range while UI administrators can also specify custom themes by downloading / import the user interface components / files on the box and AccessGateway referencing the same logon process then. To change the theme of the default user interface caxton syle GreenBubble to follow the steps below :.

• Accessing the administrator portal AccessGateway from a browser and log in as Administrator
• Now AccessGateway access node of the browser's left pane.
• access "GlobalSettings-> Edit Global Settings" option.
• now, go to the ClientExperience tab and select "Green Bubble" for UITheme parameter.
• Select "OK" and "Close" on the prompt window and then "Save" in the upper right corner of the administration portal.

This is the theme of GreenBubble configuration for user connections to AccessGateway browsers.

Last AccessGateway release also supports Chromebook users to access Windows & SaaS apps remotely. Administrators can configure this using a button on the console NS. The nsapimgr button of the configuration is [/netscaler/nsapimgr -ys “allow_framing_chromebook=1”]. This button is required to load the login portal AccessGateway of "Receiver for Chromebook." Admins can add this button in nsafter.sh file to keep the changes after each restart AccessGateway device.

Note that currently the UITheme is applicable only global parameters. another point to note here is that users need to delete the old cache to load the new components correctly Logon UI (after each change of parameters UITheme ).

You may have seen the blog vs POC vs. Pilot Production discuss solutions deployments and it made me think about how we are installing to test our internal software specifically for the Cloud Gateway, now part of the Bundle Mobile Solutions (http: //www.citrix. com / products / xenmobile / overview.html).

the expression "eat your own dog food is regularly used by software companies to direction uses its own internally produced to demonstrate the quality and capacity . We follow this house but I would consider it fine that the objective is not only to be "eat", but enjoy the experience! After all, this is a solution for user mobility everywhere so why bother activation if you do not have buy-in from users.

Our Phase POC is fine to get the new features in a stable environment to see at the end of work at the end to ensure we have the working solution. This environment is installed and maintained by one of our test teams and is accessible to all project teams to try the latest and functionality. At this point, we know there will be potential problems but it is to find them and try to make sure it is as stable as possible before entering our "pilot" phase.

The pilot phase sees the roll of the solution to a wide audience, not just engineering and not just the product group that has the solution. At this stage, we expect that the properties be functionally stable and there is more research feedback from users who use the software in all different types of edge cases. For example, we have users connecting from the local network, at home and even many different remote locations behind firewalls and wireless access points. Although it is also tested at a functional level, which gives us a much broader coverage across the board.

Experience is also important in that it not only feels consistent on different devices, but it also feels good for the device used. As we embrace BYO, we have users with all different types of devices waiting to access their applications and data regardless of what they use, but coherently.

This feedback is essential to the team and it is a key step in the release schedule that we are not only deployed internally, but that people enjoy the experience.

The final stage is the production roll-out to all Citrix employees. As mentioned in my previous blog (Living the Citrix story), our solutions are designed to allow people to work and play anywhere and that includes our employees. Our technology is a key element in enabling us to get what we need to do on a daily basis and the production roll-out is an important factor.

In the next phase of this initiative, we worked on improving 2D graphics performance more by doing some clever optimizations in the receiver. This is provided to partners through our SoC updated SDK Receiver for Linux 12.5 for ARM . We also made additional implementation based SDK for 'HDX RealTime - Audio ". (Audio Input / Output) in this version, which will enable partners to accelerate audio processing on hardware or DSP

Receiver for Linux 12.5 is ready for Flash Redirection feature provided optimized flash player for ARM is available on the platform and the receiver can make use of it for the redirect.

Once partners SoC implement the acceleration of various HDX features, they run the SoC preparation kit available through the community portal SoC manufacturer. Compliance with SoC preparation of criteria mentioned in the kit ensures that the HDX Ready SoC chipset and any device manufactured on the basis of this SoC will be quality HDX Ready.

We see great advantages in terms of performance with each optimization we do in our receiver or help our partners to accelerate the functions of HDX. Looking back a year, we can see a great improvement to be proud of.

Ready HDX based We saw many ARM SoC out last year. With Receiver for Linux 12.5 for ARM and our future work planned until 2013 we expect to see the devices also available on this premium HDX Ready platform. The devices that we wait and see today are the classic form factors such as the type of thin client box and factors of non-conventional form as All-In-One monitors and much more.

This is great news for customers looking to replace their existing appliances FAT endpoint with the next gen HDX Ready SoC devices.

We work on each HDX feature one by one to optimize the platform ARM SoC. Although this is an incremental process, customers need not worry about that because the devices they buy today will just need a software upgrade in the form of firmware and upgrade Citrix Receiver for support future optimizations. We encourage the use of the platform for ARM SoC HDX gives many advantages in cost, power and performance now!

Mobile World Congress 2013 has been the backdrop for the announcement of Samsung Knox, a new secure implementation of Android will soon be available on the main Samsung smartphones. The new solution provides companies with Blackberry type of security controls including a container, secure email, browser and applications selected from a Samsung App Store business. For those familiar with Samsung SAFE (Samsung for Enterprise), which provides APIs partners to manage certain camera functions, Knox now takes on a new level with secure boot and a NOS derivative version of Android and hundreds additional API for a wide political and controls. Knox solution is well suited to provide the highest levels of security and compliance while on the latest Samsung devices.

Citrix will provide the IT administrative control, including mobile device management (MDM) features such as Active Directory synchronization, configuration of the device, wipe selective, etc if Knox edition allowed XenMobile MDM. In addition to the Citrix services were allowed Knox particular; Sharefile for file synchronization, sharing and secure storage in the cloud or behind a corporate firewall, GoToMeeting for collaboration, GoToAssist for support and GoToMyPC. I examined before a Packt book, and I am impressed by Packt Publishing. Packt asked me to take a look at another book, Citrix XenDesktop 5.6 recipe book. It looks like another great book from Packt. This book is good for people who are approaching virtualization for the first time since it uses methods step by step to the practical deployment of XenDesktop 5.6.

This is a very comprehensive book on XenDesktop 5.6, which includes the introduction of different types of XenDesktop components. XenDesktop 5.6 works on the above three types of hypervisors and this book talks about all of them. XenDesktop 5.6 is feature rich, and this book addresses all relevant aspects, if not all of them. If I had never used or installed XenDesktop before, I definitely use this book to get me through the installation process to end user experience. The book addresses deployment of virtual desktops and applications, so it is a full reading to get it done in your cloud or private data center. Towards the end a few chapters on using Powershell and smart cards for advanced users.

In summary, the Citrix XenDesktop 5.6 Cookbook is an easy read and should be read for new users of XenDesktop 5.6. This book is a good walkthrough of the practical use of XenDesktop 5.6. Check it out!

Today I want to share some lessons we have learned from hundreds of PoCs we conducted Citrix Cloud Platform Group.

one of the most common questions we are asked is. "How long does it take to standup Citrix CloudPlatform PoC" My answer is always the same, "Anywhere from 20 minutes (yes, 20 minutes ) to 20 days. it all depends on how prepared you are. "

the area where we see most of the delays and challenges is networking. The main reason for these challenges is mainly the lack of understanding Citrix CloudPlatform network options and the requirements for each network topology. This has nothing to be ashamed Citrix CloudPlatform and Cloud in general, introduces a new approach to networking and the learning curve can be a bit long, even for networking gurus.

network in Citrix CloudPlatform is quite unique. The reason Citrix CloudPlatform (or Apache CloudStack) is so popular and successful is because it supports multiple network models. Citrix CloudPlatform does not force companies to use the specific network architecture for their cloud, instead it offers several models that can meet different use cases.

The challenge is that each network model requires different network conditions, so the first step in deploying PoC is to decide on the network topology that will be used and to prepare all the required elements . Here are some high-level networking concepts that will help you get started

Citrix CloudPlatform Networking Concepts

There are several concepts that are important for understanding the implementation Citrix CloudPlatform .:

1. Citrix CloudPlatform uses DHCP to manage and allocate IP addresses to authorities. Citrix CloudPlatform DHCP allocate IP addresses to the authorities by their unique MAC address (we use a special MAC address with the prefix 06: X: X: X) - if another DHCP resides on the network, administrators will exclude Citrix CloudPlatform MAC addresses on the DHCP server and prevent it from allocating IP addresses to request the 06: .. MAC prefix X
2. basic network does not support VLAN ID while network Advanced requires VLAN ID
3. in advanced network, the most common problem we face is the lack of proper configuration of network switches. Network switches must be correctly configured for VLAN trunking (802.1q).
4. There are several types of traffic used in Citrix CloudPlatform, as the network model used, evaluators should prepare different ranges of IP addresses (which can not overlap and everyone has to use different CIDR). For example, core network uses traffic management, optional storage customer traffic and traffic. Advanced Network requires public traffic, management traffic, the optional storage traffic and customer traffic (if using shared networks) if isolated networks are used, the client IP address will be managed by the virtual router ).
5. backbone network is considered a more scalable network topology. Usually, the limiting factor is the amount of admins assign IP clients. This reflects the number of cases can be deployed
6. Advanced Networking is a rich model features, however, since it is based on VLAN ID, a single zone supports up to ~ 4096 (known VLAN limit ) - this will be addressed in the future as new isolation methods will be supported. Currently, if a tip region has reached its limit of VLAN, a new area must be created.

With all the excitement surrounding the next version XenDesktop Excalibur, you may be wondering: what about VDI-in- a- Box? Well, the team is working on many new and exciting features, and I want to give you the opportunity to preview what is to come :. Announcing Curacao project, a preview tech VDI-in-a-Box

Curacao project soon happens in early May and will offer the same simple, all-in-one VDI solution that dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of a typical VDI deployment. The technology preview will extend VDI-in-a-Box to ensure the full Windows 8 support with HDX connections, personal computers (PVD) on Windows 8, single sign-on for remote users via Citrix NetScaler Access Gateway / and a new wizard- based on the installation and management of SSL certificates. Here are the details of these characteristics:

Full Windows 8 virtual office holder

VDI-in-a-Box supported RDP connections to Windows 8 desktops virtual since day when Microsoft released Windows 8. Curacao project adds HDX connection to Windows 8 virtual desktops, as well as many other HDX enhancements in the areas of video quality and efficiency of bandwidth, the H.264 encoding into HDX SuperCodec, application support DirectX 3D, etc. Now VDI-in-a-Box users can enjoy the same high-definition, high-performance HDX technology on the latest Windows platform.

In the computer world, we should all be aware of what happens if you lose a data center, both technical and commercial perspectives that possibility can leave us vulnerable to costly breakdowns or failure of the company itself! There may be many reasons for this to happen. Mother Nature and human error show each time a number of different contingencies can strike your data center.

XenServer integrated with Site Recovery we provide a tool that can help you get your servers, virtual desktops, databases, etc. back online.

How does XenServer this feature?

of all you need a shared storage system that is able to replicate data to a Datacenter Datacenter B. First, it is your decision how often you want the data to be replicated, which is usually governed by specific calculations RPO / RTO for your business. Distance does not matter, as with NetApp SnapMirror you can drive hundreds of miles replication and leveraging Citrix CloudBridge we can even help you compress data to be transferred over WAN!

After setting up your shared storage repository (SR) in your primary data center, you can configure the SR for disaster recovery, as shown in the graph below. SR used for disaster Recover function can be attached via iSCSI or Fiber Channel, but can not be configured if your shared storage using NFS or integrated StorageLink.

This process creates a backup metadata for virtual machines on the selected SR.

Once the configuration is made DR, backup metadata on the selected SR is always kept updated with information about the resource pool and virtual machines.

Part of the DR planning process will involve deciding what workload should be prioritized for recovery in case of disaster. This list is typically a small subset of all hosted workloads and will affect the design of your storage level. For example, you may decide that only 25 of your most critical services must be available on the website of recovery and that they can provide a lower level of service during a DR event. This decision may influence the design of your DR to provide only 2 or 3 DR SR 'on the main site running on level 1 and storage have these replicated at a lower level storage on commodity the recovery site. Many factors affect the DR design process, but the identification of workloads for recovery and their respective priorities is key.

The pool (s) of XenServer resources on the DR site can be installed and configured when you need, but ideally they should be XenServers production that are online and ready to be used if necessary to avoid delays in any recovery process. Important factors to consider when DR configuration are that levels the XenServer patch version and CPU family are identical, and sufficient resources are available on the recovery site to accommodate priority workloads for DR. The resources available on the recovery site should be sufficient to meet the performance criteria set in any business or technical SLAs that are in place, it is possible that these may be relaxed in a DR scenario, but your customers need to be made aware of any difference!

After a good first day at Citrix Summit 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center with lots of workshops, sessions, keynotes, meetings, discussions and much, everyone went to the partner portion of appreciation that took held at Disney California Adventure.

First everyone headed to the Hollywood Studios in Hollywoodland. We were greeted by (modern versions) of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, very funny, followed by lots of food, music, etc.

After the party, I had the chance to walk through Disney California Adventure in Hollywoodland alone, nobody else was there:

This was an interesting experience. Only the music was playing, Disney employees told me later that he continues overnight. In fact, when you go to Disneyland a normal day, you are not alone at all. Thousands of other people are with you, but you want to be there alone, always the first in line for the next round.

NetScaler 10.1 - the main NetScaler Version for Mobile, Cloud, Multi-location and visibility as the core was released this week with great momentum. Several download and queries within days shows the interest that is driven by the large number of features delivered in this release. In total, there are over 0 net new features that are driving momentum across all customers we have. There is something new and exciting for everyone that they belong to the company, Telco, Internet, ISP, Cloud, financial or any other segment. We made sure to add value to all the basic modules that we have while adding net new modules for this version.

Simpler Multi-location with Traffic Domain

NetScaler was the leader in multi-location initiative for many years with our SDX platform. While SDX offers the best multi-tenant solution possible with absolute isolation, he worked at the ADC layer. We added the simplified configuration wizard to enable the rapid deployment of NetScaler if XenMobile use.

Better connectivity and experience with Multipath TCP

Think Mobile and TCP and you suddenly start wondering how TCP monitor mobile devices networks so often. TCP failure causes bad experience of the end user of the service and cause significant latency. As mobile devices can be several ways to connect to resources today and there is no good way to use the roads effectively. This is where Multipath TCP focuses on and brings the best of multiple paths to the end user while reducing latency and a bad experience for the end user.

Faster delivery of content with SPDY

SPDY is a new protocol developed for the treatment of light HTTP. It aims to reduce the use of bandwidth and making it faster Internet communication.
