The next VDI-in-a-Box version 5.3 has many new features and improvements spectacular. One of my favorite new features that has been added is the inclusion of a graphical interface for creating and managing SSL certificates.
Those familiar with the process of creating and managing SSL certificates on previous versions of VDI-in -a-Box are likely to breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing this news. For those unfamiliar, the process involved connecting to the Linux machine's command line and using various commands to create or import an SSL certificate with Java keytool. It was one of the only reasons why a VDI-in-a-Box administrator would never need to connect to the CLI for Linux machine, and now that will not be necessary with the implementation of the SSL certificate IU .
user interface, as seen in the image above, gives the administrator the option to either generate a CSR to be submitted to CA their choice to receive a signed certificate, or the ability to generate a self-signed certificate. It is also possible to distribute the certificate to all servers in the VDI-in-a-box network, which can be useful if a generic certificate is used, or a virtual IP address is used for the network and network servers can be solved by the FQDN of the virtual address.
When generating a CSR, or create a self-signed certificate, the user interface will prompt the administrator to enter the necessary information generate a valid certificate as FQDN, information on the organization, location information and key size. Once your information has been entered, simply click and create self-signed certificate will be applied, or CSR will be downloaded. If you ask a self-signed certificate no other action (outside the registration certificate in your trusted domain controller). If you go on the road to creating a signed CA certificate, take CSR which has been downloaded, send it to the CA of your choice, then use the "Install Cert" option to apply the signed certificate IT.
This is the new SSL certificate wizard in a word. I'm looking forward to the reactions of users out there on this feature and 5.3 overall.
