It has been awhile since we blogged about a new version HDX Monitor, but it's not because we forgot about it. large new development HDX Monitor 3.x is a support for the upcoming version 7.0 XenDesktop and VDI-in-a-Box 5.3 release. However, we have ensured HDX Monitor still supports all versions supported by the version 2.x HDX Monitor (ie XenDesktop 5.5 and XenApp 6.5 or later, and VDI-in-a-Box 5.x) .
HDX Monitor is a diagnostic and monitoring tool that requires little, but offers a lot. It captures a wealth of information on the VDA and its characteristics, analyzes the data and alerts you to problems related to configuration and performance.
Some of the new features of the highlights for this release:
Added Components
We divided the former component system information in system information (ie OS and hardware), the client (ie receiver) and VDA (c. XenDesktop, XenApp and VDI-in-a-Box). This gives you the same amount of detail for those components that you have had with other components in the past. There is also a new component and a new Branch Repeater Thinwire component for advanced XD 7.0 that includes support for HDX 3D Pro.
Increased configurability
We continue to add user parameters to the application allow you to customize the tool to your liking. You can now decide which show components based on their condition, as in "Show only the components that are currently enabled and active." This helps in troubleshooting home only on relevant characteristics. In addition, the list of possible alerts are now available so you can see what criteria are used to trigger an alert, and the ability to "ignore" alert. Finally, support for a log file was added to help resolve HDX monitor itself.
Improved Import / Export
We have significantly improved the content of the import / export file to include all data captured components and data performance counter. This means you can take a snapshot of the system, and charge back into HDX monitor at a later time with all of the same place taken analysis.
Under the Covers
There was a lot of work under the covers as well, with improvements in reliability and performance.
