- As a huge crowd of participants Citrix Synergy applauded the University of São Paulo (USP) for winning the Price 2013 Citrix Innovation, team members Solve system enjoyed some well-deserved satisfaction. Brazilian Advisor Solution Citrix Gold, working closely with Citrix chain, implemented a project deprived of $ 60 million cloud called "Nuvem USP" (Cloud USP) to enable USP to consolidate many "mini IT" installations several campus and strengthen the security of valuable data and intellectual property. The university committed Solve system, which was successfully completed network and desktop virtualization projects before undertaking implementation of revolutionary private cloud. It is the largest cloud environment in Latin America.
Cloud USP offers virtual desktops hosted on Citrix XenDesktop, streaming applications via Citrix XenApp, secure file storage, sharing data via Citrix Sharefile and cloud networks with Citrix NetScaler. The implementation also includes 480 Cisco UCS and NetApp 7 data storage PBytes servers.
USP conducts 50 percent of all university research done in Brazil. Historically, different departments have developed their own servers to support research and teaching. This patchwork of infrastructure was poorly controlled and managed. Now, Cloud USP will help researchers streamline the procurement phase and reduce the time required for the provision of any type of infrastructure. In addition, by bringing these teams under one secure system, the university can protect its intellectual resources. Currently, USP deliver infrastructure as a service (virtual servers) to research laboratories, faculty and central administration.
