A problem many administrators face is the support of their end users. The trouble tickets are inexperienced users via email or phone and administrators must rely on the user to describe their problem. If only administrators had some way to see what their users see, it would greatly speed the diagnosis and resolution. The answer to this problem is the observation session with Windows Remote Assistance, which was added to the administrator console in VDI-in-a-Box 5.4.
VDI-in-a-Box 5.4 allows administrators to establish Microsoft remote support sessions for Windows 7 workstations and more, directly from the VDI Management Console based on the web. This allows administrators to shadow users seamlessly into the single pane of glass that is the VDI-in-a-Box Management Console. Session Shadowing is enabled by default and there is no need to manually configure this feature. Enabling Windows Remote Assistance and open the appropriate port in the Windows Firewall is done automatically when installing Desktop Agent.
Administrators and Helpdesk staff can now use the session shadowing feature to quickly connect and troubleshoot VDI-in-a-Box remote user sessions. All features of Microsoft Remote Assistance is available with VDI-in-a-Box, including the ability to view the user session, discuss with the user, and even ask the keyboard control / mouse of the session 'user.
Using shadowing session must be approved by the end user every time a remote control Assist is launched and must also approve each control keyboard / mouse time is needed. This means that end users can be assured that the administrator can not connect to or control user sessions without the knowledge and approval of the user. In addition to the approval of the user, each session is password protected and encrypted.
