Yesterday I read on another fascinating implementation on vGPU Citrix XenServer in XenDesktop, written by my colleague Roland more about SAP blogs. In recent weeks, I have written a few blogs on the potential of these technologies for CAD applications / PLM CAE / AEC and also.
This particular implementation was exactly the implementation type of the company I was hoping to see. SAP long term Citrix partner with a long history of certification on XenServer, really understand the large-scale enterprise deployments and moves more and more 3-D parts management, PDM and PLM. This is particularly interesting given their long history in all areas of virtualization, including cloud and VDI.
Roland blog details a demo at SAP TechEd US in 2013 showing a real live demonstration of SAP 3D Visual Enterprise powered by Citrix XenDesktop and NVIDIA. In particular, I am particularly interested in the extent of 3D parts in the demo, but also the variety of mobile devices (tables, laptops, smart phones) used, I really recommend you read the full blog, but important to me was
"SAP VE team provided a couple of demo scenarios, the one you can see here is a CAD model of an oil platform with over 40 million summits; not bad at all to be able to run smoothly on the WAN (for network of experts: the average latency was 0ms) "
more and more. users attempt technologies vGPU and reports excellent results. Why not give it a go
