XenDesktop 7.0 is out and it supports applications and Desktop Virtualization. One of the main features of this version is support for Microsoft App-V. As the first version to the App-V support, here are some tips / things to consider for easy deployment of App-V 5.0 in a XenDesktop environment.
- XenDesktop 7.0 supports on App-V server deployment scenario where admin using App-V Management Server and Publishing Server to manage applications.
- Microsoft App-V client does not support more than 5 Publishers. In Citrix Desktop Studio, although the administrator can add management and Studio IU Publisher, it can also add multiple publication servers using low-level SDKs. It is recommended to add only 5 Publishers. Although studio SDKs low take more than five publication servers, studio lists App-V applications first 5 Publishers.
- When adding the management server and server publishing in the publishing node App-V, if the connection fails test and App-V Server is running, make sure WinRm that is operational.
- Once the Virtual Desktop Agent is installed on the server / client, make sure that CtxAppVCOMAdmin is a member of the administrator group. This is necessary as some of the App-V operation on the side of VDA need administrator privileges. This is the pre-created user account by Citrix XenDesktop VDA installation. [CTX138057]
- It is recommended to enable SharedContentStoreMode, EnablePackageScripts in the App-V configuration on the VDA side for better performance app launch.
- Intermittently, end users may face App launch failures as "sync App-V server failed." This occurs if LogonRefresh or IntervalRefresh occurs simultaneously on the bottom (VDA). It is recommended to wait for a while and try again. This should solve the problem. [CTX138056]
- default, XenDesktop 7.0 supports the App-V deployment in application and desktop and application delivery group. To support App-V deployment Desktops single distribution group, the user must run the following PowerShell commands.
1. Get-BrokerDesktopGroup #Enumerates all groups of stations at the site
2. Get-BrokerMachineConfiguration -Name APPV * #Enumerates all APPV Blobs at the site.
3. Add-BrokerMachineConfiguration -Name APPV XYZ -DesktopGroup UID (UID is obtained from the output of the first commandlet & APPV XYZ of the output of the second commandlet)
- Sessions SometimesApp-V application are not properly disconnected when the user closes all applications. To avoid such cases, please add the following keys in the server / client ADV [CTX138138]
