Hackers use WiFi Hotel to steal data -

Kaspersky Labs security company, the firm behind Kaspersky Internet security, discovered hackers use WiFi hotel to steal data. The very specific attack, called "Darkhotel" focused on executives and other senior business leaders as they stayed in luxury hotels. As WiFi hotel is open to everyone, it provided an easy access point for hackers to get direct access to other computers.

Kaspersky believes hackers specifically targeted individuals, so they knew what they wanted to hack computers and when, allowing them access to very specific details, including the login information for email and Facebook. Hackers allegedly hid their intrusion via a fake pop-up asking the user to update extensions and popular programs, such as Adobe Flash and Google Toolbar. When the user accepts unknowing, recorder software is installed in place, allowing access for hackers to snoop and to acquire all the information they need.

The team behind the discovery of the hacks do not know exactly why they were aimed at business leaders and what information they were really after. But what they do know is that hackers know when and where their target would be visiting. The targets were in place, were the most common in Russia, Japan, China and Korea.
