The BBC issued a statement apologizing for their network of websites being inaccessible after an apparent cyber attack. In what was initially seen as a technical problem, the entire network of websites of the BBC iPlayer, including major news sites and even their applications were all inaccessible for several hours in the early morning. It is now clear that the BBC hit by a DDoS attack site, and leaving iPlayer down resulting mass outages.

Access to the site was hosted by a message error code 500, where users were left waiting for pages to load or even stop completely. The same message appeared on all platforms where BBC iPlayer streaming service has been affected as well. Sources within the organization say it was a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack that overwhelms a website with fake traffic, preventing real users to access the site and even causing the website to weaken to the point of being taken offline.

BBC had a series of technical questions online, if in 2011 the whole area bbc.co.uk went offline after a technical problem. But the organization has not been hit by a cyber attack since 2012 when it was confirmed that a cyber attack, causing its Farsi language online services, including telephony and messaging services.
