@XDtipster - Configuring Multilevel Power Policy Rules (FMA Internals Cooperative) -

still fresh in the memory after a large FMA Internals Power Management Session @ E2EVC in Berlin provide (Thanks for us Justin, aka Alex Yushin !!) with my good friend and FMA Internals Cooperative co-founder Bas van Kam, I will take a brief look at one of the issues we take on the day covered:. hidden deep in XenDesktop / FMA SDK Advanced Disconnect power policy settings

OK, that's maybe a bit dramatic, but you get the picture (no ominous music here or something )

Note: .. you are the SDK and a little bit of Posh experience must be followed by

For those of you who do not have the chance to see me and Bas (the FMA Internals Cooperative) live performances and experience color in living, pure awesomeness that E2EVC is, do not be afraid! All is not lost. You can join in the revelry and now catch up by heading over to http://www.basvankaam.com/. It will be to be almost there. Really.

As usual, Bas did a great job with his office to share the Dias and his thoughts on the subject itself, and our little notice.

Advanced Disconnect power policy settings
developed (Wait a deep breath, which is a bit of a mouthful, so you may have read it through a couple of times) control the actions for a second extended and configurable period of a user session separation in and off-peak hours, prolonged separation efficiency policy settings are carried out together with the standard release policy settings to allow administrators multistage power policy rules as initially a machine shortly after a session disconnect the connection is made , the suspension and then later the machine off applied if the session has been reconnected.

. For the purposes of this blog, I'm going to keep it very simple (my previous passage notwithstanding) and run them through a quick step-by-step process, as this super-funky settings to configure power policy

ONWARD!

sample environment
XenDesktop 7.6
training Win8 (Pooled Static) Shipping Group

Step 1: Configure a Standard separation policy If there is no connection through Citrix Studio against training Win8 delivery group setting

during peak hours
: 5 min

action: Suspend

step 2: Configuring an extended disconnect policy by POSH against the same training of Win8 delivery Group

Set broker desktop Group -Name "training Win8" -PeakExtendedDisconnectAction shutdown -PeakExtendedDisconnectTimeout 10

observations Within XenCenter:

are separated after 5 minutes: The Win8VM is suspend

are separated by a further 5 minutes: The Win8VM is Trip

Note: of extended disconnect setting timer starts separating from the initial and did not take place action after the first release. For this reason. The Win8VM shut down 10 minutes after the session is disconnected and NOT 15 min.

There you have it. Short and to the point. Who knew to dig deeper and would have some advanced power mgmt uncovering such fun!

Until next time, keep it FMA !!!

Sincerely,

Mick Glover (aka XD Tipster "Rocking XenDesktop since 08")
