Citrix Access Gateway: Demystifying .E releases -

end of 2012, Citrix launched CloudGateway 2.5, and in the context of this publication, Access Gateway launched its version number - 10.0- 71.6014.e. The .e in the version number has intrigued and confused some of us. I'll try to demystify it.

Access Gateway (Enterprise) as you know, is based on the NetScaler platform. NetScaler has two different types of media:

  • MR - Maintenance Releases
  • .E - News Improved

MRs are regular maintenance releases that out of a branch of liberation and generally include all the bug fixes and critical security updates. Look NetScaler version 10.0. 10.0 has an MR version comes out almost every month, and continues to improve the quality and stability of the 10.0 branch.

.E press other hand, as the name suggests, are the releases that contain minor improvements to the NetScaler code base. All major improvements have been made in the major release per year, while minor improvements or specific improvements to the customer are made .E releases. These versions do not have a fixed release schedule and are released on a need basis. If there is an improvement that needs to happen, a version is created.

So when Access Gateway is to make minor improvements to the NetScaler code base to support the use cases of CloudGateway, and it is impractical to wait for the next major version of NetScaler, we put these changes in the industry for improvement. And that is why we published the mystical 10.0-71.6014.e version of

Now the question that most of you ask is -. What this means that the release .E will not get all the bug fixes that are in regular MRs? Of course they will. For example. we recently published 10.0-73.e. This version is based on the release of 71.e, adding some other improvements, but also includes all bug fixes that have entered the release of 73 MR corresponding

The figure below illustrates this concept at a high level :.
