Coming soon: a reference architecture that Scales (CVD XD7 + + + EMC HV2012 Released) -

With the year almost over, it now is the time to pay attention to Citrix ® XenDesktop ® 7 scalability testing in conjunction with my colleagues from Cisco, Microsoft and EMC. Over the past seven months, we have worked to design, build and validate a reference architecture for an affordable virtual desktop infrastructure that evolves. The results of our work will lead December 23 e when Cisco plans to release a brand new Cisco Validated Design (CVD) for Citrix XenDesktop 7 built on Cisco UCS blades, EMC VNXe storage and Microsoft Server 2012 with Hyper V.

This release is exciting for a number of reasons. For starters, it is the first of several CVD who are in the works based on the new architecture Citrix XenDesktop unified. XenDesktop 7 Architecture provisions both hosted shared offices (RDS) and virtual desktops hosted (VDI) using consistent set of tools and common policies. In our validation tests, we simulated a mixed workload shared hosted desktops and shared workstations typical of many customer environments.

The most exciting part of this CVD, however, is the record user density supported configuration that we have reduced the number of seats. This means that customers can first deploy a small scale desktop virtualization solution as part of a strategic and cost effective initiative to scale the configuration up to support populations of larger users.

If you are interested in our scalability results, I'll post more on December 23 e , including a link to the actual CVD
