Government Case Study: Transport and Urban Planning -

As Sales Engineer covering state and local government agencies in the United States, Central (13 countries total) I have had the opportunity Trends see within government verticals that hold true over state, county and city lines.

use these trends, I have decided to create a set of SLG case studies that reach to what looks agencies currently using Citrix; to allow, with the aim of other government agencies for these examples are used as a template on how to follow a similar approach to solve their current challenges.

In this issue Case Study # 3 I'll be discussion oriented infrastructure units, such as the transport authorities, motor vehicles and urban planning and development.

If I someone the Department of Transportation (DOT), my first thought always shoots straight mention listening to the DMV - only to wait and the fear to be told in line - Department of Motor Vehicles, in this case, that with me I forgot the third form of documentation needed (... I should have read the site better, I know, I know)

and while waiting in line, is terrible, you think to the IT team to manage the various applications and endpoints has to be used, and keep all the PII data secure -. often for more than 100 field offices in the country! This line suddenly no longer feels quite so long ...

Citrix application : Secure application access via thin clients and kiosks

  • supply of DMV applications via XenApp is a very common case, use and enables DOT to support better their end users, make by using the apps for license renewals, vehicle registration etc. highly available to increase efficiency and reduce downtime at the DMV ,
  • reduces replacement of fat clients with thin clients in DMV offices reduces the cost of equipment to replace, while supporting the delivery of virtual desktops on thin clients IT hours over single-image management.

Certain DMV customers I work with have gone a step further and eliminates the need and the DMV visit of kiosks in local retail stores such as UPS, Kinkos and FedEx set up, where the residents Applications access renew their license or registration of the vehicle on your own. By XenApp this kiosk machines required documents and print transaction receipts can upload to allow even access the connected scanner and printer end users.

Where can this use be applied over DMV cases?

While DMV is a common use case that we see, it is just one of many in DOT. Let a few more views:

Citrix application : Enter the high-end graphics-intensive engineering and design applications

  • Many complex design projects requiring advanced engineering design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks for 3D transport models. Seen Another common application is the interactive mapping platform ArcGIS, the large amounts of data to visualize during design projects, is used.
  • CAD / CAM and GIS applications operate at their best when helping access to a GPU with the graphics processing.
  • Our HDX 3D Pro technologies can be used in XenApp and XenDesktop sessions to optimize the performance of these high-end applications GPUs. This also GPU processing to the data center and eliminates the need for expensive equipment endpoint that support the computational requirements of these applications.

Citrix application : Mobilize Workers reaction time is weather related incidents

  • engineers, driver services teams and transport specialists rely on access to real-time data to minimize, for adequate planning and to enable quick response to weather-related emergencies.
  • Many DOT agencies in the northeast and central US use Citrix XenApp as an integral part of their snow removal operations applications displaying real-time data such as live video feedback from traffic cameras provide for coordination and routes snowplow fleets optimize.
  • Similar examples are seen with emergency teams in the US during floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Citrix application : load balancing and network security provide high availability of resources for continuous support in the middle of the disaster

  • the benefits of DOT provided to ensure must be reliable and responsive to change, both planned and unexpected to the safety and well being of both residents and visitors to the region to assist them to ensure ,
  • NetScaler Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) capabilities enable data center with high availability data to ensure can be accessed in the event of a site failure.
  • In addition, many public DOT websites, the award-winning web application firewall capabilities of Citrix NetScaler use down to merge their Web server for protection against Web-based attacks.

If you are interested in a case study on your specific government focused vertically, leave a comment and we can add it to the list!

Rob
