XenDesktop 7.1 connector for System Center Configuration Manager - Future plans -

As I mentioned in the announcement blog to get XenApp Connector 6.5 service pack, we would share some of our plans and support schedule for XenDesktop. It is now time

We have several goals for our XenDesktop 7.1 Connector we believe that customers will find valuable:

  • Support XenDesktop 7.1 (Bruin) and Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager R2
  • Provide application deployment, inventory and desktop integration for XenDesktop 7.1 OS Server instances. This is equivalent to the XenApp Connector functionality for XenApp 6.5
  • Enable a single SCCM site to manage both XenApp 6.5 and XenDesktop farms the instance websites OS 7.1 Server (RDSH)
  • Simplify installation and configuration for the connector

So what does that mean?
If you deploy XenDesktop 7.1 and using the OS Server scenario (Published Applications / Desktop Published) you can use the Configuration Manager and our connector

  • manage the deployment of MSI and App-V packages for instances of the operating system of the server
  • Make sure that the applications are deployed when configuring Manager maintenance windows
  • Create and manage publications Receiver / for StoreFront application from Configuration Manager
  • Keep your PVS and MCS master VMs up- to-date using Configuration Manager, while making sure it is the correct application of PVS deployment behavior / OS server MCS machine
  • support groups delivery and machinery catalogs

there this amazing piece of software can not do?
for this initial version of XenDesktop connector, we do not expect to support customer scenarios OS (VDI). We will continue to evaluate it for later and we would like to hear your thoughts about it.

When can I start evaluating the new XenDesktop connector?
We plan to have a Tech Preview available later this quarter you will be able to test some of our basic functionality. We will use your feedback from the next Tech Preview to improve the product and help us determine the right combination of features and release date. Stay tuned Citrix Blogs for details.
