Citrix XenServer Master class XenAgent reveal ... -

In my other life as XenAgent (aka XenGirl) I'm here to answer Master class participants questions. For our latest XenServer Master class in EMEA and the US, we had about 700 questions to answer. As you can imagine this is very stressful and we do not have time to answer questions in more detail.

Masterclasses are two live webinars hour (much like a TV show with presenters live) where customers and partners can see product demonstrations, learn about best practices and ask real experts and engineers live matters solutions on any aspect of the products submitted. Moreover all the Q & A is public so you can see and record what others ask you to give great ideas and comments for your own deployments. It is also a great way to get some free and instant support!

We examined each of the 700 questions we receive and I thought I'll share 5 of them and add a little more detail on the answers

issue :.
How is it possible to run hundreds VMs per host socket when 2 and 6 cores per CPU socket there are only 24 vCPUs available? Thus, Windows VM only 24 are possible in this case, the right

Answer:
Not with Citrix XenServer you can commit too CPU resources. So you can easily allocate more vCPUs you physically. In theory, you can assign up to 4000 vCPUs per host, no matter how many physical CPU resources you have. In real life it obviously did not make much sense, but for some CPU workload is too highly effective engagement. In other cases where CPU is critical that you can pin the physical CPU vCPUs

. Question:?
Can we also undertake on-RAM

answer
Yes, through the control of dynamic memory. You can set minimum and maximum memory for the VM. As long as enough memory the VM will receive the assigned maximum memory. . If more memory is required to start additional VMs a balloon inside the virtual machine expands and releases memory

question
Where can I download the trial version of XenServer 6.2? Is there a free version

Answer:
Yes, there is a full free version. We do not limit the material resources or time you can use the free version. You can use all the essential features like XenMotion Storage, Disaster Recovery or memory integrated on-commitment. You can find the ISO here: http://xenserver.org/overview-xenserver-open-source-virtualization/download.html
Licensing is important if you have critical workloads and want to make sure you obtain premium Citrix. More information on how to purchase XenServer: http://www.citrix.com/products/xenserver/buy.html

Question:
Is boot from the supported SAN

answer
Yes, we support booting from the SAN. You can boot from iSCSI, FC and FCoE. You must activate multipathing during installation. More information can be found in the XenServer Installation Guide: http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX137829

Question:
Are you now able to have different processors on the host in a pool

answer :?
We support heterogeneous pools for many years. You can add a new generation of CPU to an older pool and new features will be hidden automatically. You can manually set the CPU masks as well. Before doing this, you should check if we support the model of CPU and masking our Hardware Compatibility List (HCL): http://hcl.xensource.com/CPUMatrix.aspx

(Note: the HCL also carries advertisements for all our trusted hardware partners, including IBM, Dell, Broadcom, HP, NetApp, Cisco, and hundreds of others)

Last but not least we had two special guests speakers

Ramesh Kamath NetApp. Ramesh works with us on a Plugin for XenCenter: Virtual Storage Console. If you missed the Master class, you can learn more about supply and NetApp storage cloning from the presentation video here: http://www.citrix.com/tv/#videos/10389

There are also some more information and links to blogs and information about NetApp VSC and this page. You can find more of NetApp products and other Parnters Citrix certified on Citrix ready market.

We also had Mayunk Jain XenDesktop vGPU about the new exciting features for high end graphics remotely through our collaborations with GRID GPU. NVIDIA
