delivery of applications with user-centric and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager connector for XenApp -

This week we are pleased to announce the release of XenApp Connector for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager (aka Thor project), marking the culmination of months of collaboration between Citrix and Microsoft.

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager helps empower people to use the devices and applications they need to be productive, while maintaining compliance and corporate control. It provides a unified infrastructure for mobile, physical and virtual environments that allows it to deliver applications and manage user experiences based on identity, connectivity, and device

More than any previous version Configuration Manager 2012 version supports the iT management model centered on the user. The new center Configuration Manager is one of allowing users by putting them at the center of the computing universe; one that supports self-service user, initiatives bring your own device, mobility of the workforce and the general trend of the consumerization of IT. We are very happy of the power of this model provides user-centric model and how it is achieved through the integration of Configuration Manager and XenApp.

So what do XenApp Connector? Put simply, it extends the reach of administrators using Configuration Manager to a much wider range of devices and user locations. Historically, Configuration Manager is used to manage Windows OS and applications deployed on Windows PCs, Windows laptops, Windows servers and Windows Phone operating in the traditional computer periphery -. In other words Active Directory domain joined machine

The XenApp Connector and Citrix Receiver to extend the scope of Configuration Manager to provide applications not only to Windows devices, but all kinds of desktop and mobile devices including Linux, iOS and Android devices; in fact, almost all devices on the market today .. The connector also allows a more flexible and mobile workforce. Users can access the applications they need, regardless of whether they are in the office, working from home or on the road.

To provide this functionality, XenApp Connector leverages three capabilities introduced with System Center 2012:

  • Deployment Types
  • administration
  • user-centric, and
  • the catalog of applications

the use of these capabilities of configuration Manager allows administrators to choose the best way of providing an application to a given user based on which machine they are using. Let's say I'm an admin application and I want to give access to a group of engineering Visio. When one of the engineers call it Ann, is to use the PC in the office I want to have the application delivered as MSI and installed locally. Okay. Nothing new there.

if Ann has a meeting and want to use a PC kiosk in a conference room to examine certain documents engineering design, she created? I want to have the application installed permanently on the machine of common conference room. With new deployment types of user-centric in System Center 2012 I can deal with this scenario by defining a rule so that the application is delivered to Ann as an App-V package when using this machine.

The XenApp Connector takes this user delivery model centered on an entirely new level. With it you can set up rules to provide the application to any user on any device via XenApp. Maybe Ann wants to access its Visio diagram in office, but his personal iPad. Or, maybe she wants to create a new diagram while working at home on the weekends (Ann very devoted). Or maybe Ann on the road and needs access to his work from a PC in a hotel "business center". In all these cases, installing the application or local application streaming is either undesirable or simply not possible. However, with the XenApp Connector I can now easily support these scenarios ... and the real beauty of this is that I as application administrator must not become an expert in XenApp to do. "Deploy via XenApp" becomes just another easy option for me (next to MSI, App-V, and CAB) in the tool, I already know , Configuration Manager.

As in previous versions of XenApp Connector will also orchestrate patching continuously-your XenApp Configuration Manager. New in this version is however the possibility to do so in collaboration with the provisioning of services so you get both the last agricultural capacity level orchestrated the link connector with single image management and efficiency assurance build server consistency that comes when you use Provisioning Services to listen to your XenApp farm.
