Bringing Linux and Windows together -

If you were at Citrix Synergy, you heard about XenApp / XenDesktop adding support for Linux virtual desktops. As my hero Homer Simpson says, "I'm not easily impressed ... WOW a blue car!"

And that's what we have to get a new car color.

We had red cars (Windows applications), green cars (Windows desktop), and now blue cars (Linux desktops). In my view, this simply different applications that we can deliver to the users are (Yes, I also believe a desktop just another application that I in 2011, said back)

So what is the problem then?

It is not that XenApp / XenDesktop is able to a Linux desktop as the Linux desktop is to provide another viable resource. The great thing is that

Nothing changes

  • The user simply sees a new resource they can access. The experience is the same. We continue to use what is installed receivers of users, including HTML5. We still offer the authentication for the user passthrough, so they need to log in multiple times.
  • The admin uses the same tools to provide the new resource ... Studio. The admin creates a new machine catalog and a new delivery group.
  • The support team uses the same tools to monitor the new resource ... Director. This can in-depth details about the user's session, including running processes

See for yourself

The great thing is that we do applications (Windows applications, Windows desktop, Linux desktops) provide users with a single platform.

and if you bring your virtual Linux desktop to run, you can relax with a little entertainment will be performed with the following from the terminal:

  telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl
