Now on stage ... Citrix Melio!

Hi all,

It's time for another interesting article on the Citrix blog site.

Before I begin, I want to welcome all the new (and much improved) Citrix blog site! The social media team here at Citrix has put in countless hours preparing for the transition and we have received many rave reviews for the new location. Kudos to the social media team for providing us Citrix people share with a really AWESOME Forum news and information on the latest Citrix products, technologies and solutions!

Meanwhile, many if not most of you are aware acquisition of Sanbolic Citrix earlier this year. the main advantages to realize provided by Sanbolic of Melio storage and data virtualization software Citrix began offering Melio as a stand-alone product in early May to help in our efforts, as many customers as possible. Since then we have participated in numerous discussions with customers, both new and existing, and have weekly webinars and demonstrations highlighting the unique and extensive capabilities of Melio SDS software platform instead. Thanks to these events we have collected an enormous amount of interest in Melio!

We practically Citrix partners our doors knocking down receive training so that they can introduce Melio for their clients. We have a rapidly growing pipeline of customers built, many of which have successfully completed their evaluations of Melio software. And we have a large number of customers who have implemented Melio in their Citrix environments, and is already reaping the fruits (see advantages described below).

With so many of our partners and customers eager to learn as much about Melio as they can, I thought this would be an opportune time to introduce the Citrix ecosystem Melio to earlier.

In one sentence: is Melio the epitome of software-defined storage (SDS). [1945004[

Specifically Melio is an infrastructure-independent software-based to simplify storage and data virtualization platform available to Citrix customers looking to enable and enhance their new or existing Citrix workspace environments. Sold as a stand-alone product, removed Melio complexity, limitations and costs associated with the provision, management and operation of conventional IT infrastructures through the pooling and sharing of storage resources via computing nodes to manage and scale out of heterogeneous to unite storage environments.

The storage resources into logical volumes aggregation that can be shared (read and write) to multiple computing nodes (physical, virtual and cloud-based), Melio offers the following advantages:

  • Central data management and protection
  • application availability and scale-out
  • Improved IT agility
  • Improved operating efficiency
  • Reduced IT infrastructure management complexity and costs

Instead of relying on traditional approaches to application availability and scale-out, the rates on the node data can pose replicate data to ensure can at unexpected failures can be accessed, use Melio customers a highly available and dynamically scalable shared-storage architecture that enables the same time, whereby the availability of applications Scale-out and load distribution, without the need to constantly mission-critical data is replicated across nodes, to ensure availability, multiple compute nodes (application server) to read and write to logical volumes.

Melio also provides the ability to customers their own Hyper create converged infrastructures (using goods compute and storage hardware), which provide comparable (and in many cases better ) measure of power failure and scalability to traditional high-end storage arrays with fraction of the cost . The "intelligence" of these systems, which is provided by the Melio software available will be delivered to the host level to administrators so that they apply enterprise storage management capabilities and advanced data services across multiple servers, volumes and workloads dynamically to constantly meet to change business requirements.

Since Melio a software-based solution with extensive capabilities is not limited by hardware, customers are looking for their IT environments have the ability to individually scale-out computing and storage resources, or together, to which add resources depend are needed to continuously support increasing workload demands. they consider best able to support application requirements As an added bonus, rather than being locked into proprietary hardware-based storage solutions, Melio provides them the flexibility all hardware components to integrate. Best of all, the inherent "sharing" aspect of Melio allows more nodes are added to an existing environment without the need to introduce more data to replicate.

To elaborate, in typical storage environments where "is silos" data (each volume is a single node with data on the node to ensure availability is accessed replicated), means more nodes Adding data has to be replicated across multiple nodes - resulting in poor storage utilization. In contrast, Melio customers Add Node Cluster effort to "Shared Storage", without having to replicate data on the new node. The benefits of this approach include the memory usage and linear improvement in performance (two great benefits that can not be realized by traditional storage architectures that rely on replication to ensure data availability) improved.

for our XenApp and XenDesktop customers all the advantages described above can be implemented, regardless of whether their application and desktop delivery solutions are available in one or more data centers. In any case, Melio provides an active / active storage architecture for high availability and load balancing of XenApp servers and XenDesktops and disaster recovery for business continuity. What's more, Melio extends these benefits to customers whose IT environments contain a variety of computing and memory devices (different brands and models), allowing them to use their existing (disparate) infrastructure components, rather than buying new hardware forced to become and / or rebuilding their infrastructure from scratch.

And there you have it, our formal introduction to the Citrix Melio. While there are a whole lot more to cover, we will keep the rest for future blog posts.
