Storefront 3.0 and Windows 10 Edge Browser -

The default browser for Windows 10 is the new Edge browser. As it stands, is not Edge ActiveX control or any other form of browser extensions support. This makes it impossible for Citrix Receiver for Web to see if the native Receiver is installed smoothly and the native Receiver call applications to start.

If you have read my previous blog about how Storefront 3.0 supports Google Chrome without NPAPI, you might wonder why we do not have the same technology, ie URI handler can support Edge. URI handler is calling a native program indeed Edge supports. Unlike Chrome, however, do not provide an option for margin available to the user to ask the browser, their choice in the invocation request to recall, as shown below.

Had we adopted this technology for Edge, users would be prompted with this dialog every time she tries to start an application that (and I'm sure you will agree with me) not Experience leading a good user. With this restriction, we have taken a number of measures to mitigate the lack of usability.

Receiver for Windows Installation and Start

If Receiver for Web recognizes that Edge is accessed from, is not it prompts the user to install native receiver. Instead, a download link in the user drop-down menu is provided native receiver to download.

Once selected, load the receiver screen is displayed and the user can download and install native receiver.

After the user selects the check box with the license agreement and click the Download button, the user is returned to the main screen, where applications and desktop appears.

to agree to the Receiver for Windows is successfully installed, the user can choose to start an application. If the Receiver for Web site is not a trusted site, the user is prompted to open the ICA file.

As you have noticed, there is no option in the UI to make Edge always open ICA file. If this is the case, it means that the Receiver for Web site is not trustworthy. You can add the Receiver for Web site to the trusted sites or intranet sites. This can be carried out with a Group Policy for domain joined client computer. Once you have done this and restarted edge, applications should be started without further prompting.

If you are the Receiver for Web site to the trusted or intranet sites Adding manually, there is no obvious way to do it in edge itself. You need to do it through Windows settings. First, select Settings from the Start menu.

Enter "Internet options" in the search box on the pop-up window.

Select Internet Options in the search result. They are the well-known Internet Options window.

Receiver for HTML5

If you use the Receiver for Web site to configure recipients HTML5 as an alternative for start of applications that users' are can detect receiver for HTML5 standard as recipients for web, not received, whether the native receiver is installed. In this case, a menu item for the user is introduced to select to which receivers use for the launch of applications.

If you change the receiver from the menu, Receiver for Web will tell you which version of the receiver you use, and allow you to choose to use that receiver , Please note that Receiver for Windows is called is called "full version" in the user interface and receiver for HTML5 as a "light version".
